Arrow of Light

Hi Scott!!  Happy Holidays to you and yours!!

You wrote and asked me:

“I stumbled across your website today while doing a little internet searching regarding the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award.  I earned my Arrow of Light in 1992 and my Eagle in 1998.  I have a first grade son who is a Tiger Cub this year.  In putting together my adult uniform I started to wonder why there has never been an Arrow of Light medal awarded by BSA?”

The short answer is “because nobody really thought about it.” There is a longer answer, which includes a metalic Arrow of Light Award which is pinned to the uniform shirt, but it comes down to the fact that the Arrow of Light (previously called the WEBELOS Award back in the 50s) was “just a Cub Scout award” and there was little to no thought about developing a medal for the accomphishment.

The reason for the square knot emblem was to keep adults from wearing the cloth Arrow of Light emblem on their uniforms.

Thanks for asking me…

About Mike Walton

Take your standard Oliver North. Add strong parts of Bill Cosby and Sir Robert Baden-Powell (the founder of Scouting). Throw in Johny Bravo without the "hurhhs!" and his pecks. Add a strong dose of parenting, the sexuality of a latin lover, and Mona Lisa's smile. And a 40 year old's body frame. That's me basically *grinning*
