No, these people were BORED and they decided to deface a state park. Boredom makes one do stupid things. Ask the three teenagers who wanted to just go out and “shoot someone” a few weeks back. Ask the Air Marshall who couldn’t think of something better to do with his cellphone than to use it as a peeping tom device. Those are CRIMES, people. All three should be arrested, placed in a jail cell awaiting a court appearance — with an appropriate level of bonding. Their church should come up with a faith-based punishment. The Greater Salt Lake Council, BSA should immediately revoke their registration and refund their fees. They should appear on television and apologize to the community and state for their actions. And it should be DROPPED at that point.
We have many youth and adults who do STUPID STUFF (another word comes to mind here…I won’t use it but you get the idea…) and are not held to the standard their faith and the programs we profess to be a part of. This should remind the LDS Church and the Boy Scouts of America that their members *represent their movements* whether they are IN UNIFORM or in these guy’s cases, out of uniform and public knowledge. This should also remind everyone that social media’s great — but the things you post “out here” while it sounds or thinks “cute” or “cool” can actually come back and bite you hard on your butt!! Some thinking is STILL required and some restraint is STILL needed!!
