Boy Scouts Shoulder Loops

Hi Lee!!

You wrote and asked me:

“Can Boy Scouts wear the pink cancer awareness shoulder loops?”

There are two answers to this.

The official answer is “No, since the shoulder loops identify PROGRAMS or LEVELS OF SERVICE with the BSA.  The five shoulder loops (dark blue for Cub Scouting; OLIVE green (not red) for Boy Scouting; blaze (orange) for Varsity Scouting; dark green for Venturing; and coming soon white for Sea Scouting) along with the silver (grey) shoulder loops worn by District and Local Council volunteers and professionals; and gold (yellow) shoulder loops worn by Area, Regional and National Council volunteers and professionals) are worn by youth and/or adults directly involved in Scouting’s programs.”

The unofficial, Mike Walton answer is “With advanced approval from your local Council’s Scout Executive (and _only_ he or she can approve this– NOT your District Executive or a Field Director, Director of Field Services, etc. etc.), Scouts and Scouters supporting cancer-awareness charitiable events like the Susan Komen Race for a Cure; the American Cancer Society’s “Walk To Kill Cancer” and similiar type events may wear special ribbons and/or pink shoulder loops for the duration of the event only as a visiable show of support for the event and the cause.”

Hope this helps out, Lee…and thanks for asking me!!

About Mike Walton

Take your standard Oliver North. Add strong parts of Bill Cosby and Sir Robert Baden-Powell (the founder of Scouting). Throw in Johny Bravo without the "hurhhs!" and his pecks. Add a strong dose of parenting, the sexuality of a latin lover, and Mona Lisa's smile. And a 40 year old's body frame. That's me basically *grinning*
