Hey Matt!!
You wrote and asked me:
“My name is Matthew Wilson a proud eagle scout. While at a local swap meet I found a BSA jacket and purchased it. The tag reads Boy Scouts Of America Official Jacket and has the number 553 on it. Size 40. It feels like all wool. Though i wore it in the rain and the water beaded off of it. This thing is in perfect shape.
In scouring the internet for information on this item i can not find another quite like it. It has 4 pockets. The ones you show on your site show 2 pockets. The ones i am finding on ebay only have 2 pockets. Hoping you can shed some light on this. It only has one patch on it, the official BSA patch.”
I’ll have to add this.
Thanks for asking me….what you have is a WOMAN’S red jac-shirt. Slash pockets in the front along with two smaller sized breast pockets. The BSA had a female version of the jac-shirt made from 1966 to 1973. Identical in warmth -just with the extra side pockets.
I have one in my “set” of jac-shirts and will be keeping it around for a while. Since people can’t really tell the difference between the female and male versions except for the pockets, I wear it with pride with a large NESA patch on the backside *smiling*
Thanks for asking me…it’s a great question!!!
