“Can I Wear my OLD Council Shoulder Patch (CSP)?” (19 Feb 15)

Hi Jim!!
You wrote and asked me:
I recently joined a troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster. I am an Eagle Scout and still have most of my old patches. I want to wear my old council patch on my uniform, and see nothing in the rules and regs that says I cannot”

Perhaps you overlooked this in the Insignia (Control) Guide (page 10, Excess Insignia):
“With the exception of the Cub Scout badges of rank and Arrow Points, members wear only the insignia that show their present status in the movement.”

You also stated:

“however the council I belonged to changed names and that council in essence no longer exists. Is that patch still acceptable to wear?”
No, it’s not because that local Council no longer exists. You wear the CSP representing the local Council where you are registered as an Assistant Scoutmaster – representing your present status in the movement.
What many Scouters like me have done, Jim, is to frame the old shirt (if you have it still) or the old patches (which I’ve done) and display it. I have a half shirt with my old Order of the Arrow Lodge flap, city and state strips (because I was a Scout before my Council created a CSP. I have all versions of that Council’s CSP framed as a set separately) along with camp patches, activity patches and other things.
My Council (Old Kentucky Home) was merged with George Rodgers Clark to become Lincoln Heritage Council; then later, both Four Rivers and Audubon (Many Waters) (Shawnee Trails) Councils merged with Lincoln Heritage. I have a map in my office room with all of the earlier Council CSPs before they all merged/consolidated to create larger Councils in Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati)
But no…the Council is history. Sorry.
Thanks for asking me!!

About Settummanque

Take your standard Oliver North. Add strong parts of Bill Cosby and Sir Robert Baden-Powell (the founder of Scouting). Throw in Johny Bravo without the "hurhhs!" and his pecks. Add a strong dose of parenting, the sexuality of a latin lover, and Mona Lisa's smile. And a 40 year old's body frame. That's me basically *grinning*
